More funding for Pueblo Zoo in the hands of the voters

A major step forward for the Pueblo Zoo is now in the hands of voters.

Abbie Krause the CEO of the Pueblo Zoo came on the KIX morning show, to explain the ask.

The Our Zoo. Their Future. campaign committee worked to get the Zoo’s proposed 1/6th-cent sales tax on the ballot.

Now, City of Pueblo voters will decide on Measure 2B.

If approved, the measure would create a 0.167% retail sales tax beginning in 2027, with all of the revenue dedicated to supporting the Pueblo Zoo. The tax would be in place for five years, giving voters and the Zoo an opportunity to reassess the Zoo’s needs and determine whether the funding is still necessary.

Why is it needed?

The Zoo relies on a fluctuating City General Fund, competing for the same dollars as police and fire departments. When the city budget is tight, our Zoo’s future- and the wellbeing of the animals – is at risk
