Thomas Neil Compton

Thomas Neil Compton, 86, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024. He was born on May 17, 1938, in Trinidad, Colorado, to Richard and Louise Compton. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy; his grandson, Christopher; his parents, Richard and Louise Compton; and his siblings, Robert Compton and Vivian Compton.

Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Esther Compton; children Shawn (Stephanie) Compton, Kevin (Susan) Compton, Shannon (Randy) Boitz, and Corey (Louise) Compton; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Tom worked for the Farmers Home Administration for 30 years, helping farmers and ranchers. He also delivered the Pueblo Chieftain for 30 years, becoming well-known to hundreds of people in the community. Tom had a passion for horses and enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly hunting, team roping, and working with his hands. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family. He was a constant presence at his children’s and later his grandchildren’s school and sporting events, always standing in the corner of the gym, on the fairway, or at the end of the stands. He was quick to offer praise and was always ready to provide suggestions for improvement when asked.

In retirement, Tom and Esther traveled extensively, visiting numerous countries, taking multiple cruises, and exploring many states. His life experiences made him eager to help others, whether by offering advice, volunteering, or lending a hand when needed. Tom was deeply dedicated to his Catholic faith, which he instilled in his children.

Tom lived a long, productive life, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and many friends. His life was full of love and happiness, and he will be dearly missed. We take comfort in knowing that he is now enjoying his heavenly rewards.
